Description
Air Fryer Breaded Shrimp is a crispy, healthier alternative to deep-fried shrimp. Coated in seasoned breadcrumbs, these shrimp are air-fried to golden perfection, offering a light, flavorful, and indulgent treat in just 20 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off, depending on preference)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Olive oil spray (or cooking spray)
Instructions
- Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps the breading stick better and ensures they get crispy in the air fryer.
- Set up the breading station: In one shallow bowl, place the flour. In a second shallow bowl, whisk the egg. In a third shallow bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Dredge each shrimp in the flour, dip into the egg mixture, then coat in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs stick.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes.
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray. Place the breaded shrimp in a single layer in the basket, making sure they aren’t touching. Spray the tops of the shrimp with olive oil spray.
- Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. The shrimp should be golden and crispy when done, with an internal temperature of 120°F (50°C).
- Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce such as cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, or fresh lemon.
Notes
For a spicier version, add cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the breadcrumb mixture.To make a lemon garlic twist, add lemon zest to the breadcrumbs and serve with fresh lemon juice.Replace half of the breadcrumbs with shredded coconut for a tropical coconut shrimp variation.
