Description

Air Fryer Breaded Shrimp is a crispy, healthier alternative to deep-fried shrimp. Coated in seasoned breadcrumbs, these shrimp are air-fried to golden perfection, offering a light, flavorful, and indulgent treat in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off, depending on preference)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Olive oil spray (or cooking spray)

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps the breading stick better and ensures they get crispy in the air fryer.
  2. Set up the breading station: In one shallow bowl, place the flour. In a second shallow bowl, whisk the egg. In a third shallow bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Dredge each shrimp in the flour, dip into the egg mixture, then coat in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs stick.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray. Place the breaded shrimp in a single layer in the basket, making sure they aren’t touching. Spray the tops of the shrimp with olive oil spray.
  6. Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. The shrimp should be golden and crispy when done, with an internal temperature of 120°F (50°C).
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce such as cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, or fresh lemon.

Notes

For a spicier version, add cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the breadcrumb mixture. To make a lemon garlic twist, add lemon zest to the breadcrumbs and serve with fresh lemon juice.Replace half of the breadcrumbs with shredded coconut for a tropical coconut shrimp variation.
