Description

Apple Hand Pies with store-bought pie crust are an easy, flaky, and delicious dessert filled with warm spiced apples. Perfect for sharing, snacking, or serving at holidays, they deliver all the cozy flavors of apple pie in a handheld treat.


Ingredients

  • 2 store-bought pie crusts (refrigerated or thawed if frozen)
  • 3 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji), peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch or flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • Coarse sugar or cinnamon sugar (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix diced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Set aside.
  3. Roll out pie crusts on a lightly floured surface. Use a 4–5 inch round cutter to cut out circles.
  4. Place 1–2 spoonfuls of apple filling in the center of each circle.
  5. Moisten dough edges with water. Fold over to form a half-moon and press edges with a fork to seal.
  6. Transfer to baking sheet. Cut a small slit in the top of each pie for steam to escape.
  7. Whisk egg with 1 tbsp water to make an egg wash. Brush over pies and sprinkle with coarse sugar, if desired.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown and flaky.
  9. Cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
