Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder

- 3/4 cup granulated sugar

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan or a 10-inch springform pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Add milk or sour cream and vanilla extract, and mix until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir just until combined.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Arrange the thinly sliced apples in overlapping rows or a spiral pattern on top of the batter.
- In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over the apples. Dot the top with cubes of cold butter and optional chopped nuts.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature.
