Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (divided)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed (divided)
- 5 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon (divided)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- Make the crust: In a large bowl, combine 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 tsp salt. Cut in 3/4 cup cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes, until lightly golden.
- Prepare the apple filling: In a bowl, toss sliced apples with 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tbsp flour, 2 tbsp cornstarch, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, lemon juice, and vanilla extract until well coated. Spread evenly over the baked crust.
- Make the streusel topping: In another bowl, combine 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Cut in remaining 1/4 cup cold butter until crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over apples.
- Bake for 50–55 minutes, until topping is golden and apples are tender.
- Cool completely in the pan before slicing into bars for clean cuts.
