Description

Asian Glazed Baked Barramundi is a simple yet flavorful dish that combines the delicate barramundi fish with a savory-sweet Asian-inspired glaze. Made with soy sauce, honey, ginger, and garlic, this glaze caramelizes beautifully as the fish bakes, creating a balanced and delicious meal. It’s quick to prepare, healthy, and ideal for a weeknight dinner or to impress guests with its light yet vibrant flavors.

Ingredients

  • 4 barramundi fillets (about 4 oz each)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger

  • 1 tablespoon green onions, chopped (for garnish)

  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray.

  • Prepare the glaze:
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and grated ginger. Stir until the honey dissolves and all ingredients are well combined.

  • Season the fish:
Pat the barramundi fillets dry with a paper towel to ensure even cooking. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper on both sides.

  • Glaze the fish:
Place the barramundi fillets on the prepared baking sheet. Spoon half of the glaze over the fillets, making sure they’re evenly coated. Reserve the other half of the glaze for basting.

  • Bake the fish:
Bake the fish in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork and is opaque in the center. For a caramelized glaze, broil the fish for the last 2-3 minutes, but be sure to watch it closely.

  • Baste the fish (optional):
During baking, baste the fish once or twice with the remaining glaze for extra flavor and a glossy finish.

  • Garnish and serve:
Once done, remove the fish from the oven and transfer to serving plates. Garnish with freshly chopped green onions, sesame seeds (if using), and drizzle with any leftover glaze.

  • Serve:
Serve the Asian Glazed Baked Barramundi with steamed jasmine rice, sautéed vegetables, or a light salad for a complete meal.

Notes

Add spice: Add chili flakes, sriracha, or chili garlic sauce to the glaze for a spicy kick.Citrus twist: Add lime or lemon juice to the glaze for an extra burst of freshness.Use a different fish: If you can’t find barramundi, cod, halibut, or tilapia can be good substitutes.Roast vegetables: Add roasted vegetables like bell peppers or zucchini on the same baking sheet for a one-pan meal.
