Baked Chicken Parmesan is a healthier twist on the classic Italian-American dish, featuring crispy oven-baked chicken breasts topped with rich marinara sauce and melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
- Olive oil or cooking spray
- 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness, then season with salt and pepper.
- In one bowl, whisk the eggs. In another, mix breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
- Dip each chicken breast in the egg mixture, then dredge in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing to coat well.
- Place the coated chicken breasts on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly spray or drizzle the tops with olive oil.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the chicken is golden and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Remove from the oven, spoon marinara sauce over each piece, and top with mozzarella cheese.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5–7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.
