Description

Baked pears are a warm, naturally sweet dessert made by roasting ripe pear halves with honey or maple syrup, spices, and optional toppings like nuts. Simple yet elegant, they’re perfect for cozy nights or refined dinner parties.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe but firm pears (Bosc, Anjou, or Bartlett)
  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 tbsp butter or coconut oil (optional)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 23 tbsp water or juice (for the baking dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cut pears in half lengthwise and scoop out the cores using a spoon or melon baller.
  3. Brush the cut sides with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  4. Arrange pear halves cut-side up in a baking dish.
  5. Drizzle each half with honey or maple syrup and sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  6. Add a small dab of butter or coconut oil into each hollow, if using.
  7. Top with chopped nuts, if desired.
  8. Pour water or juice into the bottom of the dish to keep pears moist.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 10–15 minutes until pears are soft and caramelized.
  10. Serve warm with toppings like yogurt, whipped cream, or ice cream.
