Ingredients
- 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup (150 g) brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups (345 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups (340 g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet, dark, or mixed)
- Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and optional nuts.
- Scoop the dough into large balls (about 3 tablespoons each) and place them on the prepared baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
- For thicker cookies, chill the dough balls in the refrigerator for 15–30 minutes before baking.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are golden but the centers are still soft and slightly underbaked.
- Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
