Description

Banana fritters are a quick and easy treat featuring ripe bananas mixed into a simple batter and fried until golden brown. With a crispy exterior and soft, sweet interior, they’re perfect for breakfast, dessert, or snacking.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or sunflower)
  • Powdered sugar or honey (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
  2. Add egg, milk, and vanilla extract to the bananas and mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
  4. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the banana mixture until a thick, spoonable batter forms.
  5. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  6. Drop spoonfuls of batter carefully into the hot oil, a few at a time to avoid overcrowding.
  7. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side, or until fritters are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  9. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar or drizzled with honey.

Notes

Use overripe bananas for the best flavor and texture.Add spices like nutmeg or cardamom for a more aromatic fritter. For extra texture, stir in shredded coconut or chocolate chips.Make a vegan version using flax egg and plant-based milk.Bake instead of fry for a lighter alternative—375°F for 15–20 minutes.
