Description

Belgian waffles are a timeless breakfast treat known for their crispy exterior and soft, airy interior. Perfect for any occasion, these waffles offer endless customization with your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch (optional, for extra crispiness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your Belgian waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cornstarch (if using).
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then whisk in the milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using).
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. The batter will be slightly lumpy, which is fine.
  5. Lightly grease your waffle iron with cooking spray or brush with melted butter.
  6. Pour the batter onto the preheated waffle maker, filling it just enough to cover the grid. Close the waffle maker and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the waffles are golden brown and crisp.
  7. Carefully remove the waffles from the waffle maker and serve immediately with your favorite toppings, such as syrup, whipped cream, fresh berries, or even a dusting of powdered sugar.

Notes

For extra crispiness, add cornstarch to the batter or use more butter.Feel free to add fruit, chocolate chips, or spices like cinnamon to the batter for variety. If you’re making the batter ahead of time, store it in the fridge overnight and stir before using. If using a regular waffle maker, cooking time may vary, and the waffles may be thinner than traditional Belgian waffles.Waffles can be frozen for up to 3 months and reheated in a toaster or oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes.
