Ingredients
- For the brownie layer:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (optional)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp baking powder (optional)
- For the cookie layer:

- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Make the brownie layer: In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well.
- Stir in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder (if using) until fully combined. Spread the brownie batter evenly in the prepared pan.
- Make the cookie dough: In another bowl, cream the softened butter with brown and granulated sugar until fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. Add flour, baking soda, and salt; mix until combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over the brownie batter. Gently spread or flatten the dough to cover most of the surface, leaving some brownie showing if desired.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Let cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
