Description
Chinese beef and broccoli is a quick and flavorful stir-fry featuring tender beef slices and crisp broccoli tossed in a savory garlic sauce. A healthier, fresher alternative to takeout, ready in under 30 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 4 cups broccoli florets
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 green onions, sliced (optional, for garnish)
- 4 cups cooked white rice or noodles, for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine sliced beef with 2 tbsp soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Mix well and marinate for 15 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Stir-fry the beef until browned but not fully cooked, then remove and set aside.
- Add broccoli florets to the skillet with 2–3 tbsp water. Stir-fry until bright green and tender-crisp.
- Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the broccoli, cooking briefly until fragrant.
- Return beef to the skillet. Stir in the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and 2–3 tbsp water. Toss everything together until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli.
- Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles, garnished with sliced green onions if desired.
Notes
Use flank steak or sirloin for best tenderness.Chicken, shrimp, or tofu can be substituted for beef.Add vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, or snap peas for extra flavor.For gluten-free, use tamari and gluten-free oyster sauce.Best enjoyed fresh, as broccoli may soften when reheated.
