Ingredients
For the Croissant Breakfast:
-
4 large chocolate croissants (store-bought or homemade)
-
3 large eggs
-
1/2 cup milk (whole milk or heavy cream for extra richness)
-
1/4 cup granulated sugar
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1 tablespoon butter (for greasing the baking dish)
-
Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
- Fresh berries or whipped cream (optional, for serving)
Instructions
-
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a medium-sized baking dish (such as a 9×9-inch dish) with butter. -
Prepare the Croissants:
Cut each chocolate croissant into quarters or thick slices. Arrange the croissant pieces evenly in the greased baking dish, ensuring the chocolate is exposed in the center for a gooey finish. -
Make the Custard:
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon (optional), and salt until smooth and frothy. -
Pour the Custard:
Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissant slices, ensuring the croissants are fully soaked. Use a spoon to gently press the croissants into the liquid, helping them absorb the custard. -
Bake:
Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown and slightly crisp. If you want a more golden top, broil for the last 2 minutes, but watch carefully to avoid burning. -
Serve:
Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve with fresh berries or whipped cream for added sweetness and freshness.
Notes
Add Nuts: For a bit of crunch, sprinkle chopped nuts such as pecans, walnuts, or almonds over the croissants before pouring the custard mixture.Berries & Chocolate: Add fresh raspberries, strawberries, or blueberries on top of the croissants before baking for a fruity twist.Caramelized Banana: Add sliced bananas to the croissants before pouring the custard over them for a caramelized touch.Make it Vegan: Replace the eggs with a flax or chia egg and substitute the milk with almond or coconut milk for a dairy-free version.
