Description

Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes are a creamy, indulgent twist on the classic mashed potatoes, made extra smooth and rich with the addition of cream cheese. The perfect side dish for any meal, these mashed potatoes have a velvety texture with a subtle tang, making them a favorite for family dinners, holidays, and special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (or more, as needed)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley or chives, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the potatoes: Place the peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  2. Drain and mash: Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Use a potato masher or hand mixer to mash the potatoes until smooth and fluffy. For extra smooth potatoes, use a potato ricer.
  3. Add cream cheese, butter, and milk: Add the softened cream cheese, butter, and half of the milk to the mashed potatoes. Continue mashing or mixing until everything is well combined and creamy. Add more milk, a little at a time, to reach your desired consistency.
  4. Season: Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using). Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
  5. Serve: Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving dish and garnish with chopped parsley or chives for a fresh touch. Serve immediately.

Notes

For fluffier mashed potatoes, use a potato ricer or food mill instead of a masher.Feel free to add roasted garlic or garlic powder for extra flavor. If the mashed potatoes are too thick, add more milk to adjust the consistency.
