Description

This Crockpot Green Bean Casserole delivers all the classic comfort of the traditional holiday dish, made easier with slow cooking. Creamy, savory, and topped with crispy fried onions, it’s a no-fuss, crowd-pleasing side perfect for busy gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs fresh or frozen green beans, trimmed
  • 2 cans (10.5 oz each) cream of mushroom soup
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups French fried onions
  • 1 tbsp butter or cooking spray (for greasing crockpot)

Instructions

  1. Lightly grease the inside of your crockpot with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  3. Add green beans to the crockpot and pour the soup mixture over them. Stir to coat evenly.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 4–5 hours or high for 2–3 hours, until green beans are tender.
  5. About 30 minutes before serving, stir in half of the French fried onions and the shredded cheddar cheese, if using.
  6. Just before serving, sprinkle the remaining fried onions on top and cover until warmed through.
  7. Serve directly from the crockpot for ease and warmth.

Notes

Use canned green beans for softer texture and faster cook time (2–3 hours on low).Add sautéed mushrooms or onions for extra flavor and texture. For a vegan version, use plant-based milk and cream soup.Add extra fried onions after reheating to regain crunch.Great for make-ahead—assemble the night before and start cooking the next day.
