Ingredients
-
4 large croissants (preferably day-old)
-
1 1/2 cups whole milk
-
1/2 cup heavy cream
-
4 large eggs
-
1/4 cup granulated sugar
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1 tablespoon butter (for greasing the baking dish)
-
Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Maple syrup (for serving)
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
-
Tear the croissants into bite-sized pieces and layer them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
-
Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissant pieces, pressing them down gently to ensure the croissants soak up the custard.
-
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight, to allow the croissants to absorb the custard.
-
When you’re ready to bake, remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.
-
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy, and the center is set.
-
Let the casserole cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with warm maple syrup.
