Description

Cruffins are a delightful hybrid pastry combining the flaky layers of a croissant with the shape of a muffin. Easy to make with store-bought dough, they can be filled with sweet or savory ingredients and are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry or crescent roll dough (thawed if frozen)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Optional fillings: 1/4 cup jam, Nutella, chocolate chips, or fruit preserves
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a standard muffin tin.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet into a large rectangle.
  3. Brush the entire surface with melted butter. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or spread your chosen filling evenly.
  4. Starting from a long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
  5. Using a sharp knife, slice the log in half lengthwise to expose the inner layers.
  6. With the cut sides facing out, coil each strip into a spiral and place into a muffin cup.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Use croissant dough for a more buttery, authentic texture if available.Don’t overfill, especially with wet fillings, to avoid sogginess.Reheat leftovers in the oven to restore crispness.Make ahead by assembling and refrigerating overnight, then baking fresh.Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze for a bakery-style finish.
