Ingredients
- For the cake:
-
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (or homemade chocolate cake)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- For the chocolate sauce:
- 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup milk
- For the topping:
- 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
- Chocolate syrup (optional)
- Cocoa powder (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- For the cake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil. Mix according to package instructions. Pour the batter into the prepared dish and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let the cake cool for 10-15 minutes.
- For the chocolate sauce: In a saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, cocoa powder, and milk. Stir constantly over medium heat until the chocolate chips melt and the sauce is smooth. Set aside.
- Soak the cake: Use a fork or skewer to poke holes all over the warm cake. Pour the chocolate sauce over the cake, allowing it to soak into the holes. Let the cake cool completely.
- For the topping: Beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together until stiff peaks form. Spread the whipped cream over the cooled cake.
- Garnish: Sprinkle mini chocolate chips over the whipped cream. Drizzle with chocolate syrup and dust with cocoa powder if desired.
- Serve: Chill for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld and make slicing easier. Enjoy!
Notes
Variation: Add crushed peanut butter cups for a peanut butter and chocolate twist.Double Chocolate: Add a layer of chocolate pudding between the cake and whipped cream for an even richer experience.Tropical Twist: Add crushed pineapple to the whipped cream for a fruity contrast to the chocolate.
