Ingredients

  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240 g) sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (270 g) chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup (65 g) brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (for topping)
  • 3 tbsp (40 g) unsalted butter, melted (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract and sour cream, mixing until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a few for sprinkling on top if desired.
  7. Prepare the streusel topping by mixing brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter until crumbly.
  8. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan, sprinkle with some of the streusel topping, then spread the remaining batter over it. Finish with the remaining streusel on top.
  9. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the cake to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Toss chocolate chips in a little flour before folding into the batter to prevent sinking.Mini chocolate chips create a more even distribution.Add chopped nuts to the streusel for extra crunch.Serve warm with coffee, tea, or milk for the best experience. The cake keeps well at room temperature for 3 days or can be frozen for up to 2 months.
