Description

Easy teriyaki chicken is a quick and flavorful dish with tender chicken coated in a glossy, sweet-savory homemade teriyaki sauce. Perfect with rice or noodles, it’s healthier than takeout and ready in under 30 minutes.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar or honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, vinegar, cornstarch, and water to make the teriyaki sauce.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken pieces and cook until golden and cooked through, 5–7 minutes.
  3. Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet. Stir and cook until it thickens and coats the chicken, about 2–3 minutes.
  4. Drizzle with sesame oil if using.
  5. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

Add broccoli, snap peas, or bell peppers for extra veggies.Use honey instead of brown sugar for a lighter sweetness.Swap chicken with shrimp, salmon, or tofu for variety.Make it spicy by adding chili flakes or sriracha.Serve over rice, fried rice, or noodles for a complete meal.
