Frito Pie is a nostalgic comfort food made by layering crunchy Fritos corn chips, hearty homemade chili, and melted cheese for the ultimate crowd-pleasing dish. Perfect for game nights, potlucks, or casual family dinners, it’s quick to prepare and endlessly customizable.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
- 1 (15 oz) can kidney beans or pinto beans, drained and rinsed
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 cups Fritos corn chips
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or Mexican blend)
- Optional toppings: sour cream, diced green onions, jalapeños, chopped cilantro
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until beef is browned and onion is softened. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and beans. Stir well and let simmer for 10–15 minutes to blend flavors.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Spread a layer of Fritos corn chips in the bottom of a baking dish.
- Spoon the chili mixture over the chips, then sprinkle generously with cheese.
- Repeat layers if desired, finishing with cheese on top.
- Bake for 10–15 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
