Ingredients
- 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (45 g) unsweetened cocoa powder

- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) hot water or coffee
- 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 3 cups (360 g) powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 2–3 tbsp heavy cream or milk (for frosting)
- Mini chocolate chips or black decorating gel (for ghost faces)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk sugar, eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, then stir in hot water or coffee until the batter is smooth and thin.
- Divide batter evenly into cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
- For the frosting, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with cream or milk, and beat until light and fluffy.
- Transfer frosting to a piping bag fitted with a large round tip. Pipe tall swirls to create ghost shapes.
- Press in mini chocolate chips or use decorating gel to make eyes and mouths for each ghost.
