Description

Hamburger noodle casserole is a hearty, comforting dish featuring seasoned ground beef, tender egg noodles, a creamy tomato sauce, and layers of melted cheese. Perfect for weeknights or potlucks, this easy-to-make casserole is a crowd-pleasing classic.


Ingredients

  • 12 oz egg noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook egg noodles in salted boiling water according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  4. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix sour cream and cream cheese until smooth.
  7. Combine cooked noodles with the sour cream mixture and stir to coat.
  8. Layer half the noodle mixture in the prepared baking dish, followed by half the beef mixture, and a layer of shredded cheese. Repeat layers.
  9. Top with remaining shredded cheese.
  10. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Add bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach to the beef for extra veggies.Swap cheddar for mozzarella or a cheese blend for different flavor.Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze up to 2 months.Reheat in the oven at 350°F or microwave individual portions.
