Description
Hamburger noodle casserole is a hearty, comforting dish featuring seasoned ground beef, tender egg noodles, a creamy tomato sauce, and layers of melted cheese. Perfect for weeknights or potlucks, this easy-to-make casserole is a crowd-pleasing classic.
Ingredients
- 12 oz egg noodles
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 15 oz tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook egg noodles in salted boiling water according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
- Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix sour cream and cream cheese until smooth.
- Combine cooked noodles with the sour cream mixture and stir to coat.
- Layer half the noodle mixture in the prepared baking dish, followed by half the beef mixture, and a layer of shredded cheese. Repeat layers.
- Top with remaining shredded cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
