Description

Haystacks are no-bake clusters made with melted chocolate or butterscotch mixed with crunchy chow mein noodles, peanuts, or other add-ins. These quick and easy sweet-and-salty treats are perfect for holidays, parties, or anytime snacking.


Ingredients

  • 1 (11 oz) bag butterscotch chips or chocolate chips (milk, semi-sweet, or white)
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (optional)
  • 2 1/2 cups crunchy chow mein noodles
  • 1/2 cup salted peanuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup mini marshmallows, shredded coconut, or holiday sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt butterscotch or chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  3. Stir in peanut butter (if using) until fully combined and creamy.
  4. Gently fold in chow mein noodles and any additional mix-ins (peanuts, marshmallows, etc.) until evenly coated.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Let the haystacks set at room temperature until firm, or refrigerate for 15–20 minutes.
  7. Once set, store in an airtight container until ready to serve.

Notes

Use semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips for a richer flavor.Add festive sprinkles or mini M&Ms for a holiday version.For a nut-free option, omit peanuts or substitute with sunflower seeds or pretzels.Use white chocolate and dried cranberries for a wintery variation.Add cornflakes or crispy rice cereal for extra crunch.
