Description

Homemade Twix bars feature a buttery shortbread base, rich caramel center, and smooth chocolate topping. These decadent treats mimic the classic candy bar but are even better when made fresh with simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for caramel)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp light corn syrup
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil or coconut oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, salt, and softened butter until a crumbly dough forms.
  3. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 18–20 minutes, or until lightly golden. Let cool completely.
  4. To make the caramel, combine 1/2 cup butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk in a saucepan over medium heat.
  5. Stir constantly until the mixture thickens and turns a golden caramel color, about 8–10 minutes.
  6. Pour the caramel evenly over the cooled shortbread and let it set for 20–30 minutes.
  7. Melt the chocolate chips with oil in the microwave or over a double boiler until smooth.
  8. Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer and spread evenly.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 1–2 hours until fully set.
  10. Slice into bars and enjoy.

Notes
