Description

Korean Chicken Steamed Bao Buns are soft, fluffy bao filled with Korean-style chicken, crisp vegetables, and a sweet-spicy sauce. They’re a fun and flavorful dish perfect for parties, snacks, or a unique dinner at home.


Ingredients

  • 12 bao buns (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 1/2 lbs chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 cup shredded carrots or cabbage
  • 1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • Fresh cilantro, optional
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, gochujang, rice vinegar, honey, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil.
  2. Marinate the chicken in the mixture for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the marinated chicken until fully cooked and caramelized.
  4. Steam the bao buns according to package or recipe instructions until soft and fluffy.
  5. Fill each bun with chicken, then top with shredded carrots or cabbage, cucumber, and green onions.
  6. Garnish with cilantro and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes
