Description
Apple Kugel is a traditional Jewish baked dish made with tender egg noodles, spiced apples, and a sweet custard-like filling. It’s creamy inside, golden on top, and perfect as a holiday side or dessert.
Ingredients
- 12 oz wide egg noodles (or matzo for Passover)
- 4 medium apples, peeled and sliced thin
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook egg noodles according to package instructions until just tender. Drain well.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, sour cream, cottage cheese, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
- Fold in cooked noodles, sliced apples, and raisins if using. Pour in melted butter and mix until evenly coated.
- Transfer mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading evenly.
- Bake for 45–55 minutes, until the top is golden brown and custard is set.
- Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
