Description

Queso Blanco is a creamy, velvety cheese dip made with white cheese, milk, and flavorful seasonings. Perfect for tortilla chips, nachos, tacos, or burritos, this restaurant-style dip is a party favorite that comes together in minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb white American cheese (or Monterey Jack, white cheddar, or queso quesadilla)
  • 1 cup milk or half-and-half
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeño or green chili, finely diced
  • 1/2 tsp cumin (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.
  2. Sauté onion, garlic, and jalapeño until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Reduce heat to low and stir in milk or half-and-half.
  4. Gradually add cheese, stirring constantly, until melted and smooth.
  5. Season with cumin, salt, and black pepper to taste.
  6. Transfer to a serving dish, garnish with cilantro, and serve warm with chips.

Notes

White American cheese melts the smoothest, but you can mix in other cheeses for extra flavor. For spicier queso, use serrano peppers or add cayenne pepper.Keep queso warm in a small slow cooker or fondue pot for parties. If queso thickens too much, stir in a splash of milk when reheating.
