Description

Quick Poppy Seed Rolls are soft, fluffy, and lightly sweet pastries filled with a rich, nutty poppy seed mixture. Made without yeast, these easy homemade rolls come together quickly using simple pantry ingredients. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, these quick poppy seed rolls bake to a beautiful golden color and fill your kitchen with a warm, comforting aroma.

Ingredients

  • For the Dough
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ¾ cup milk

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 egg

For the Poppy Seed Filling

  • ½ cup poppy seeds

  • ½ cup milk

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1–2 tablespoons milk or cream

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, melted butter, and egg until smooth.

  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.

  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and roll it into a rectangle about ¼-inch thick.

  • To prepare the filling, combine poppy seeds, milk, sugar, honey, butter, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat for 3–5 minutes until the mixture thickens.

  • Spread the warm poppy seed filling evenly over the rolled dough.

  • Roll the dough tightly into a log shape, then slice into 12 even rolls.

  • Place the rolls into the prepared baking dish, leaving a little space between them.

  • Bake for 18–22 minutes or until the rolls are lightly golden on top.

  • Allow the rolls to cool slightly. If desired, mix powdered sugar with milk to make a glaze and drizzle over the rolls before serving

Notes

Avoid overmixing the dough to keep the rolls soft and tender. If the dough feels sticky, lightly dust it with flour while rolling. The filling can be prepared slightly ahead of time and used once cooled.Store rolls in an airtight container to keep them soft.A simple glaze or dusting of powdered sugar enhances sweetness and presentation.
