Sloppy Joe casserole is a hearty, family-friendly baked dish that combines savory ground meat, tangy Sloppy Joe sauce, pasta, and melted cheese for the ultimate comfort food.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 12 oz egg noodles or pasta, cooked
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
- Optional topping: 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a large baking dish.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil or butter and sauté onion, bell pepper, and garlic until softened.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add cooked pasta into the skillet and toss to coat with the meat sauce.
- Transfer mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- If desired, add breadcrumbs or crushed crackers for extra crunch.
- Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
