Description

Slow Cooker Apple Crisp is a warm, comforting dessert made with spiced apples and a buttery oat crumble topping. It’s an easy, hands-off way to enjoy the classic fall treat without using your oven.

Ingredients

  • 68 apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)
  • For the topping:
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples, then toss them in a large bowl with lemon juice, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch (if using).
  2. Lightly grease the insert of your slow cooker and pour in the apple mixture.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, melted butter, and vanilla extract until coarse crumbs form.
  4. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples in the slow cooker.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 3–4 hours or on high for 2–2.5 hours, until apples are tender and topping is set.
  6. For a crispier topping, uncover the slow cooker during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  7. Serve warm on its own or with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor.Old-fashioned oats provide the best texture for the topping.Cornstarch is optional but helps thicken if apples are very juicy.Uncover during the last 30 minutes for a crunchier topping.Store leftovers in the fridge and reheat in the microwave or oven.
