Description

Tender beef tips slow-cooked until melt-in-your-mouth soft and smothered in a rich, savory homemade gravy. A classic comfort food that’s easy to prepare and perfect for busy days.


Ingredients

  • 2 lb beef stew meat or sirloin tips
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Place the beef in a large bowl and toss with flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until evenly coated.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and brown the beef on all sides.
  3. Transfer the browned beef to the slow cooker and add the sliced onion.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce, then pour over the beef.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 7–8 hours or on high for 3–4 hours, until the beef is very tender.
  6. About 30 minutes before serving, mix cornstarch with water and stir into the slow cooker.
  7. Continue cooking until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency, then serve warm.

Notes

Browning the beef adds extra flavor but can be skipped if short on time.Chuck roast cut into cubes is a great alternative to stew meat.Add mushrooms or carrots for extra vegetables.Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.Use gluten-free flour and soy sauce to make this gluten-free.
