Description

Taquitos are a popular Mexican dish made by rolling seasoned meat or vegetables inside tortillas, then frying them until crispy and golden. These mini rolled tacos are easy to make, customizable, and packed with flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chicken (shredded) or ground beef (or black beans for a vegetarian option)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend)
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (optional for heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro (optional)
  • 810 small flour or corn tortillas (depending on the size of your tortillas)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (or spray oil for air frying)
  • Sour cream, guacamole, salsa, or any dipping sauce of your choice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling:
Cook the meat (if using ground beef), cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up into small pieces. Drain any excess fat. For shredded chicken, use leftover or cooked chicken breasts. Add garlic powder, cumin, chili powder, salt, pepper, and stir in chopped onions and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add cheese:
Remove the filling from heat and stir in the shredded cheese until it melts. Set aside to cool.
  3. Assemble the Taquitos:
Warm tortillas to make them more pliable. Place a small amount of filling in the center of each tortilla, then roll tightly around the filling.
  4. Cook the Taquitos:
For frying: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat, and cook taquitos for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
For air frying: Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C), lightly spray with oil, and air fry for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  5. Serve:
Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces such as sour cream, salsa, or guacamole.

Notes

For a spicier version, add jalapeños or hot sauce to the filling. For vegetarian taquitos, use black beans or roasted vegetables as the filling. If you prefer to bake, brush the taquitos with a little oil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 15-20 minutes.
