Ingredients
- For the cake:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- For the frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2–4 tablespoons whole milk (or heavy cream)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- With the mixer on low speed, add a third of the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, followed by half of the milk. Mix until just combined. Repeat with the remaining dry ingredients and milk, ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the cake is cooling, prepare the frosting. Beat the softened butter on medium speed until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, until fully combined. Stir in the vanilla extract and pinch of salt. Gradually add milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until you reach a smooth, spreadable consistency.
- Once the cake is completely cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top using a spatula. Decorate with sprinkles, fresh fruit, or chocolate shavings if desired.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
For a flavor twist, try adding lemon or almond extract instead of vanilla. For a chocolate version, add 1/2 cup of cocoa powder to the dry ingredients or fold in chocolate chips for extra flavor. You can top the frosted cake with fresh fruit like strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries for added freshness.
