Description

Braised Cabbage with Chicken is a hearty, one-pot comfort meal made with tender chicken simmered alongside soft, flavorful cabbage, carrots, and aromatic seasonings. Ingredients

  • 4 chicken thighs or drumsticks
  • 1 medium green cabbage, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 bay leaves

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot or deep skillet over medium heat.
  • Season chicken with salt and pepper, then brown on all sides until golden. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same pot, cook sliced onion until softened.
  • Add garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Stir in carrots and chopped cabbage, cooking for a few minutes until slightly softened.
  • Mix in tomato paste and paprika.
  • Return chicken to the pot and pour in chicken broth. Add bay leaves.
  • Bring to a gentle simmer, then cover and cook on low heat for 35–45 minutes until chicken is tender and fully cooked (75°C / 165°F).
  • Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.

Browning the chicken enhances depth of flavor.Avoid overcooking the cabbage to maintain texture.This dish tastes even better the next day as flavors develop.Add potatoes or extra vegetables for a heartier meal.
