Ingredients

For the cake:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (150g) sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup (120ml) melted butter
  • ½ cup (120ml) milk
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 3 apples (peeled and sliced)
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)

For the crumble topping:

  • ¾ cup (95g) flour
  • ½ cup (100g) sugar
  • ½ cup (115g) cold butter (cubed)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a cake pan.
  • Prepare the crumble: mix flour, sugar, and butter with your fingers until crumbly. Set aside.
  • In a bowl, whisk eggs and sugar until light and creamy.
  • Add melted butter, milk, vanilla extract, and lemon zest; mix well.
  • In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, stirring until smooth.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  • Arrange apple slices on top, gently pressing them into the batter.
  • Sprinkle crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and cooked through.
