Ingredients
For the dough:
- 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 packet (7g) dry yeast
- 1 cup (240ml) warm milk or water
- ¼ cup (60ml) oil or melted butter
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp salt
For the filling:
- 2 cups cooked and grated sugar beets
- ½ cup chopped walnuts
- 2–3 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk (or water), yeast, and a little sugar. Let sit until foamy.
- Add flour, egg, oil (or butter), and salt. Mix and knead into a smooth, elastic dough.
- Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- In a separate bowl, mix grated sugar beets, walnuts, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon.
- Divide the dough into small portions and roll each into a circle.
- Place a spoonful of filling in the center and fold to seal into pie shapes.
- Arrange pies on a lined baking tray and let rest briefly.
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly before serving.
